Crimes Of Conscience is the first studio album from Irish band Cry Before Dawn which was released by Epic in 20 July 1987.

The album spawned four singles; "Gone Forever" and "The Seed That's Been Sown" "Girl In The Ghetto" and the Ireland only release of "Flags".

Critical reception[edit]

In a 1987 review in Record Mirror, Lysette Cohen gave the album a favourable review and three stars. "Cry Before Dawn make the kind of music that lifts your spirits while dragging your heart across the floor at the same time. And this, their first album, is a collection of lilting melodies and mini-anthems, including the wonderful hit single that never was, 'Gone Forever’ Clad with traditional Irish instruments, and tinged with images of Ireland, the songs are sad and emotive ('Girl In The Ghetto'), strong and definite ('Nobody Knows"), and truly patriotic ('Flags"). This really is a fine debut album from one of the few bands who put their heart where their mouth is."

Duncan Holland review in Music Week said, The single, Gone Forever, sounded alright: smart ballad, touches of ethnic instrumentation and proof that all Irish bands need no longer sound like U2. Il's with a light step we then go to the LP, only to discover the single set the mould and out jumps eight more very similar pieces. There are early indications of better to come, but for the time being we must ask for a few extra dimensions.
