DNA Journey (originally titled Ant & Dec's DNA Journey) is a British genealogy documentary series that has aired on ITV1 since 2019, in which a pair of celebrities trace their family history.
The series was devised by writer and historian Alistair Moffat[1], who is introduced by Ant & Dec at the start of the first episode as their friend's uncle. Alistair suggested that Ant & Dec do a DNA test to find out where their families came from. The results of the test were so fascinating and so remarkable that they agreed to make a television show about it.
Filming began in April 2017 but was delayed in May 2017 due to Ant taking a career break to deal with his drink and drug addiction.[2] Filming recommenced in April 2019 and the resulting documentary eventually aired over two nights in November 2019.
Following the success of the original programmes, further series were produced, with each episode following the DNA journeys of a pair of celebrities. Currently, all four series are available to stream on-demand on ITVX.[3]
Each show involves the celebrities being taken to an unknown location, to meet up with Brad Argent, family historian and DNA Expert from Ancestry. Brad will reveal the connection the place has to their past.
During their journey the celebrities will meet up with previously unknown relatives as they trace their family trees back hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of years.
