Delfan County (Persian: شهرستان دلفان)[a] is in Lorestan province, Iran. The capital of the county is the city of Nurabad.[2]

History

After the 2006 National Census, the village of Haft Cheshmeh was elevated to the status of a city.[3]

After the 2011 census, Khaveh-ye Jonubi and Khaveh-ye Shomali Rural Districts were separated from the Central District in the establishment of Khaveh District.

In October 2020, the village of Barkhordar rose to city status.[4] In March 2022, Itivand[5] and Mirbag[6] Districts were established, with two rural districts each that were transferred from Kakavand District and the Central District, respectively.

At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 137,385 in 29,257 households.[7] The following census in 2011 counted 144,161 people in 35,598 households.[8] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 143,973 in 40,467 households.[9]

Geography

Delfan is a mountainous region in the northwest of Lorestan province. Its capital city, Nurabad, is one of the five cities in Iran that is more than 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) above sea level[10] and has very cold winters. The county is populated by Kurds.[11]
