Democratic Republic of the Yoruba

From Wikipedia - Reading time: 4 min

On 12 April 2024, Yoruba Nation agitators under the leadership of Dupe Onitiri Abiola unilaterally declared the independence of Odùduwà, officially the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba[1] which spans through the South-West & part of North Central region of Nigeria, South-East & Central of Republic of Benin and East-Central Togo in West Africa. [2][3][4] The declaration of independence was met with resistance from the national goverment of Nigeria, following several attempts by the secessionists to seize control of their acclaimed territory in defense of its sovereignty.[5][6][7][8][9]
