The Derry Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Derry GAA clubs. The Derry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1887.
Slaughtneil are the title holders, defeating Banagher in the Final in October 2024 to win their twelfth title in a row.
The trophy presented to the winners is the Fr Collins Cup.[1]
The winners qualify to represent their county in the Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship. The winners can, in turn, go on to play in the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship.
Slaughtneil are the only Derry team to have ever won the Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship lifting the Four Seasons Cup in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021[2]
The 8 teams in the Derry Hurling Championship are divided into two groups of four.[3] Over the course of the group stage, each team plays once against the others in the group, resulting in each team being guaranteed at least three games. Two points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for a loss. The teams are ranked in the group stage table by points gained, then scoring difference and then their head-to-head record.
Senior final: The top teams in each group contest the senior final.
Intermediate final: The second-placed teams in each group contest the intermediate final.
Junior final: The third-placed teams in each group contest the junior final.
At the end of the championship, the winning team qualify to the subsequent Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship.
8 teams will compete in the 2024 Derry Senior Hurling Championship.
