History

[edit]

The Engineering Courses under University of Delhi was established in 1962 as Delhi College of Engineering (presently Delhi Technological University) as an affiliated institute under University of Delhi. The University of Delhi had two engineering institutes under its affiliation-

  • Delhi College of Engineering (Presently Delhi Technological University) affiliated to University of Delhi in 1962 and later in July 2009, Delhi College of Engineering was upgraded to a state university from being a college under University of Delhi and renamed Delhi Technological University (DTU), through the Delhi Technological University Bill, 2009.[2]
  • Delhi Institute of Technology (Presently Netaji Subhash University of Technology) affiliated to University of Delhi in 1983 and later in August 2017, the institute was upgraded to a state university from being a college under University of Delhi and renamed Netaji Subhash University of Technology, through the Delhi Netaji Subhas University of Technology Bill, 2017.[3][4]

After demerger of Delhi College of Engineering and Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology from the university, the vacuum so created is now going to be filled by introduction of three Bachelor of Technology Programmes, namely B.Tech. in Computer science and Engineering, B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering and B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering under the Faculty of Technology established in 2023 by the current Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi Dr. Yogesh Singh who himself is the former Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University(DTU) and is also former Director of Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology-NSIT(now known as Netaji Subhash University of Technology) inaugurated by the current Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.[5] The current Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi performed Bhoomi Pujan for construction of Faculty of Technology Building to start the construction work.[6]
