Hamlet is an upcoming American drama film based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet. It was directed by Aneil Karia and written by Michael Lesslie, and stars Riz Ahmed, Morfydd Clark and Joe Alwyn. Ahmed is also a producer on the film.
In October 2017, it was announced that a film adaptation of Hamlet was in the works from a screenplay by Mike Lesslie with Riz Ahmed starring. Netflix was in negotiations to finance and distribute.[2] The film would languish in development hell until May 2022, when it was reported that Aneil Karia would direct the film; Ahmed was still set to star as well as produce. Morfydd Clark was cast as Ophelia and Joe Alwyn as her brother Laertes.[3]
Principal photography took place in London, England from November 8 to December 21, 2023.[4][5] In January 2024, Focus Features acquired international distribution rights to the film.[6][7]
