Hans is an Indian Punjabi Hindu and Sikh surname that originates from the Sanskrit hams, meaning swan or goose.[1] It is used as a clan name by the Arora,[1] the Jat,[2] the Bhangi (Chuhra) and the Mirasi castes.[3][4]
For the Khokhars, such alliances can be dated back to the mid-fifteenth century, while similar marital alliances with the shrine can be traced for other Jat clans, such as the Bhattis, Hans and Dhudhis.
