Board games are games with rules, a playing surface, and tokens that enable interaction between or among players as players look down at the playing surface and face each other.[1] Unlike digital games, player interaction is not mediated by a system in board games, and ultimately the essential difference between board games and digital games is the medium.[1]
Some board games have solo variants, such as Arkham Horror and Agricola. Others are specifically designed for one player.
In abstract strategy games, players know the entire game state at all times, and random generators such as dice are not used.[2]
Participants are typically eliminated before game end.
