Biography

[edit]

Liv Vaisberg was born in Cannes, France and studied international and European law at King's College London, Panthéon-Sorbonne Paris and College of Europe Bruges and started her career as a consultant and lawyer for the creative industries. Based in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, she has worked across the cultural sector in roles spanning curatorial direction, cultural entrepreneurship, and strategic consultancy. Her projects frequently engage with alternative models of exhibition-making, art fair formats, and hybrid event design. She was the first director of the Brussels iteration of Independent fair helping bring the New York-based art fair format to Europe. In addition to her curatorial and entrepreneurial endeavors, Liv Vaisberg founded in 2017 the Liv Vaisberg Office for Art & Design, a consultancy providing strategic and curatorial support to cultural institutions, fairs, and design studios.

In 2008, Liv Vaisberg co-founded the Charleroi Safari [7] with Nicolas Buissart which went viral on international media platform in a very short time [8]. The Safari was highlighting the creativity of the city through by touring tourist in the most ugly city of the world, following a Dutch article in the Volkskrant [9].

Projects

[edit]

Vaisberg is the co-founder of several noted initiatives, including:

- Design Biennale Rotterdam: The first Biennale dedicated to local and international experimental design that took place in February and March 2025 for the first time across 25 venues, co-founded with Sarah Schulten. The new biennial event aimed to make contemporary design more accessible and inclusive, focusing on diaspora, heritage, and future-oriented design. The event was supported by Het Nieuwe Instituut [10], Boijmans van Beunigen and Kunsthal amongst other. [11][12] [13] [14] [15] [16]

- COLLECTIBLE: A pioneering design fair dedicated exclusively to contemporary collectible design, co-founded with Clélie Debehault in Brussels in 2018 and which expanded to New York City in 2024. (COLLECTIBLE) [17] [18] [19] [20] [21] [22]

- Huidenclub: Amid the 2020 lockdown, Liv Vaisberg co-founded the Huidenclub[23], a new space for contemporary culture in Rotterdam. Situated in a former tannery, the Huidenclub was conceived as an experimental platform for artistic production and critical reflection in an architecture designed by Tomas Dirrix[24] and was nominated for the Rotterdam Architecture Prize ([25]. It hosts a vibrant public programme of exhibitions, performances, talks, and screenings that address pressing social and cultural issues. Alongside its public-facing activities, the Huidenclub also functions as a shared workspace for artists, designers, and creative entrepreneurs, nurturing a multidisciplinary and collaborative community.

- A Performance Affair: Co-founded with William Kerr, this Brussels-based performance art initiative was launched to provide a platform for performance artists and collectors. It received international attention and was featured on the front page of the New York Times International Edition. [26] [27] [28] [29] [30]

- Poppositions: An alternative art fair focused on emerging artists and experimental formats that was launched in 2012 and put in hold in 2019. [31] [32] [33] [34]

She has also consulted for major cultural institutions and independent artists, offering expertise in strategy, positioning, and creative development.
