Makhdooom Shah Safi Abdus Samad (pen name Khadim: 1475–1521)[1][2][3] was an Indian Sufi saint and poet of Suhrawardiyya order and a Khalifa of Shaikh Sa’ad-ud-deen Khairabadi. Safipur in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh was named after Safi, and he is buried in Muhalla Peerzadgan in Safipur, his tomb was built by Muhammad Ali.[4][5][6][7] He was 12th in the Spiritual chain of Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi, the founder of revivalist Barelvi movement of Sunni Islam.[8] The Urs-e-Safavi is celebrated on 19 Muharram annually.[9]
Makhdoom Shah Safi was born as Safi Abdus Samad to Maulana Ilmuddin bin Maulana Zainul Islam, he was the descendant of Usman, a companion of Muhammad.
He studied in Khairabad Madrasa under the guidance of Shaikh Sa’ad-ud-deen Khairabadi.[10]
