Malar (transl. Flower) is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language television series, starring Ashwathy Ash,[2] VJ Surendhar Raj, Sunitha Srinivasan, and Varun Udhay. It is directed by A. Jawahar under the banner of Sun Entertainment and Vision Time India Private Limited.
It premiered on 27 February 2023, airing on Sun TV from Monday to Saturday. It is also available on the digital platform Sun NXT.[3][4]
The story revolves around two sisters named Parvathy and Malar, but not siblings by birth. Parvathy means the world to her warm-hearted sister Malar.
Preethi Sharma[6][7][8] was cast in the female lead role as Malar.[9] This marks Preethi Sharma's return to Tamil television after a small hiatus. But on 3 July 2024,[10] she was replaced by actress Ashwathy Ash.[11] VJ Agni plays the male lead alongside her.[12] In the beginning of January 2024, he quit the show, citing an injury.[13] Actor VJ Surendhar Raj replaced his role as Arjun.[14]
Actress Nivisha was cast as Malar's elder sister, Parvathi,[15] but was replaced by Sunitha Srinivasan in September 2023.[16]
The first promo was released on 15 February 2023 featuring Preethi Sharma, Nivisha, and Srilekha Rajendran.[17] The second promo was unveiled on 20 February 2023, featuring protagonist Preethi Sharma and Niharika Harshu and revealing the release date.[18]
The show started airing on Sun TV on 27 February 2023, replacing the Abhiyum Naanum time slot.[19]
