Mammoth (Baran Flinders) is a supervillain appearing in media published by DC Comics. Alongside his sister Shimmer, he is a founding member of the Fearsome Five and enemy of the Teen Titans.[1]
Publication history
[edit]Mammoth first appeared in The New Teen Titans #3 (January 1981) and was created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez.[2]
Fictional character biography
[edit]Baran Flinders and his older sister Selinda (also known as Shimmer) are metahumans from Australia. After attacking their bullies, the two were sent to Markovia, where Helga Jace cared for them before they became criminals.
Subsequently, Mammoth becomes a founding member of the Fearsome Five and an enemy of the Teen Titans, Superman, and the Outsiders.[3][4] He later retires and moves to a Tibetan monastery before Psimon kills Shimmer.[5][6]
Mammoth later appears as a member of Alexander Luthor Jr.'s Secret Society of Super Villains and the Injustice League.[7][8]
The New 52
[edit]In The New 52 reboot, Mammoth appears as a member of the Fearsome Five, who are allies of the Secret Society of Super Villains and the Crime Syndicate of America.[9][10][11]
Powers and abilities
[edit]Mammoth possesses superhuman strength and durability, including a degree of protection from energy attacks.

[edit]- Mammoth appears in Teen Titans (2003), voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.[12] This version is a genetically enhanced student of the H.I.V.E. Academy and a member of the H.I.V.E. Five who often works with Jinx and Gizmo.
- A teenage Mammoth makes non-speaking appearances in Young Justice.[12] This version is a member of the Light and Kobra who derives his strength from Bane's Venom steroid and the Blockbuster formula and sports grey skin and areas of exposed muscle as a side effect.
