The Mayer School of Fashion Design (formerly the Chic School of Fashion[1]) was a career college in New York City's Garment District, which offered short term, 10 month programs in fashion illustration, pattern making, sewing, and draping.[2] It was the only fashion college in the Garment District.[3] It was run by Herbert Mayer.
After these experiences she landed in New York to study at the Mayer School of Fashion Design to get a "hands on" education in illustration, sewing, draping, and patternmaking, as she already had a degree in philosophy. This was the only design school located in the garment center, and after a ten-month course she had acquired the skills to find work there.
