The district, as claimed by India

The Mirpur District is included in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on the official map of India, as released by the Survey of India following the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.[1] The region is administered by Pakistan as the Mirpur Division.[2]

Controversy

[edit]

India's claim to Mirpur became a matter of political controversy following the visit of the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott to the district and interacting with officials of the municipality, which triggered an official protest from the Indian foreign secretary to the British High Commissioner to India.[3] The controversy was dismissed by the authorities of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.[4]
