The Multishow Brazilian Music Award for Gospel of the Year is an award given annually at the Multishow Brazilian Music Award ceremony, which was established in 1994 and originally called the TVZ Award. The category was created in 2023, initially named Christian of the Year, as part of a reformulation of the Multishow Award Academy's rules.[1][2] In 2024, the category was renamed to its current name. Previously, the Song of the Year award encompassed various musical genres in a single category.[3] However, starting in 2023, this category was divided into 11 new categories, each dedicated to a specific musical genre, including gospel music.[4][5]
This change aimed to recognize the diversity of genres present in Brazilian music and provide greater space for popular styles that have a significant presence in the country's musical scene.[6] The Gospel of the Year category highlights the most impactful songs within the genre, awarding artists who contribute to the evolution and popularity of religious music in Brazil.[7]
