Narcotic Drugs Act

From Wikipedia - Reading time: 5 min

The Narcotic Drugs Act (Template:Lang-de, abbreviated BtMG, Template:IPA-de) is the main controlled substances law of Germany. It regulates the manufacture, trade, possession, and prescription of narcotic drugs. Comparable to the United Kingdom’s Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the United States’ Controlled Substances Act and Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the BtMG consolidates earlier regulations and implements Germany’s obligations under international treaties such as the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the Convention on Psychotropic Substances.[1]

The BtMG replaced the German Opium Law of 1929 and has parallels to the Swiss BtMG and the Austrian Suchtmittelgesetz. It was last comprehensively re-announced on 1 March 1994.[2] The most recent major amendment was the legalization of cannabis on 1 April 2024, after which cannabis has been regulated under the German cannabis control bill.[3]
