The 2026 West Bengal election scenario is looking intriguing. Opinion polls suggest that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will maintain its base, but face setbacks in some urban areas and minority belts, losing ground to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and Congress ¹.
However, the TMC is expected to gain some previously winning Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seats. Interestingly, the BJP's core vote is predicted to shift significantly to both the Left and TMC, potentially making the BJP a milder force in the state after the election results are announced.
The Left, on the other hand, is emerging as a strong contender. The CPIM, in particular, might benefit from the BJP's declining influence in certain areas. The Congress, too, might gain some seats, primarily in minority-dominated constituencies.
These predictions indicate a potential shift in West Bengal's political landscape, with the TMC and Left forces gaining ground at the expense of the BJP.
