Nicaragua and Syria established diplomatic relations on 14 February 1999.[1] Relations have been generally positive.

History[edit]

Nicaragua is considered a friendly country to Syria and in 2022, President Daniel Ortega sent a congratulations cable to President Bashar al-Assad for the 76th anniversary of the independence of the Syrian Arab Republic.[2]

In 2023, Nicaragua voted against establishing an Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic at the United Nations.[3]
