Nieve (lit. 'snow', this word is also used to refer to regular ice cream in certain regions) is a frozen dessert of Mexican origin. Nieve specifically refers to ice cream that is created from fruit juice with a main focus on fruit flavors and have a water base as opposed to regular ice cream.[1]
Nieve is sold all over Mexico alongside regular ice cream with many regions in Mexico offering their own distinct flavors. Tepoztlán is renowned for its eccentric flavors including bubble gum, flowers like roses, and coffee. In Oaxaca nieve is made with leche quemada (burnt milk), tequila, and mezcal.[2] And in Pátzcuaro, they make a special variation known as "nieve de pasta" which is made with milk similar to traditional ice cream which is very creamy with the name "pasta" originating from the name of the city and not the ingredients used.[3]
