Paul Alexander Stewart

Paul Alexander Stewart (born 1990) is an artist, curator, writer, and researcher. He is a principal lecturer in Fine Art at Teesside University and the founder of the Middlesbrough Art Weekender and the Alternative Art College. His work has been described as questioning “myths of creativity and freedom within the current constructions of art.”[1]

He has authored several influential publications, including Art and Radical Education (2024), Art, Capital and Critical Pedagogy(2020), [2]and Art and Activism: Beyond the Gallery Walls (2016). [3] His research engages with topics like social theory, radical pedagogy, and the role of art in transformative practices.

Notable works include "Forms of Circulation #1", a short film focused on the seal population of Seal Sands. Selected for multiple festivals including the BFI London Film Festival 2024 [4]and awarded best experimental film at Busan Experimental film festival 2023. and "Until the End of the World", a film developed through creative workshops and AI collaboration, exhibited at MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art).
