Persian Gulf University (also known as PGU; دانشگاه خلیج فارس) is a public university located in the capital city of Bushehr, Bushehr province, Iran, originally established as Bushehr University in 1991. PGU is the first and the largest public university founded in the Bushehr province, Iran.[3]The Iranian government partially finances research efforts. Furthermore, various business organizations have offered support and funding to Persian Gulf University to help implement necessary initiatives and programs. PGU has established partnerships with several international universities for research and educational collaboration.

History

[edit]

Persian Gulf University (PGU) is located in the coastal city of Bushehr. It is a public university accredited by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. It began as a "Technical & Engineering College" with two majors in mechanical and civil engineering when Bushehr University was founded in 1991.[citation needed]

PGU consists of eight faculties that offer undergraduate courses leading to bachelor's degrees (B.A. or B.Sc.) in 29 disciplines, postgraduate courses leading to master's degrees (M.A. or M.Sc.) in 54 subjects, and doctoral courses leading to PhD degrees in 12 subjects. The university accepts students who pass the national entrance examination administered annually by the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.[citation needed]

Over the years, PGU has grown significantly both in terms of academic offerings and research capabilities. It has expanded to include eight faculties, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. These faculties cover a range of disciplines including engineering, humanities, arts, architecture, business, and more.[3]
