Prathap Chandra Reddy (born 5 February 1933)[1][2] is an Indian entrepreneur and cardiologist who founded the first corporate chain of hospitals in India, the Apollo Hospitals.[3] India Today ranked him 48th in its 2017 list of India's 50 most powerful people.[4]
As per Forbes list of India’s 100 richest tycoons, dated 9 October 2024, Prathap Reddy is ranked 94th with a net worth of $ 3.52 Billion.[5]
Dr Reddy received his medical degree from the Stanley Medical College in Chennai and later trained as a Cardiologist in the UK and USA. He did his Fellowship from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston and went on to head several research programs at the Missouri State Chest Hospital, USA where he worked for several years before returning to India.[6]
Reddy was married at an early age to a lady of his own community and social background in a match arranged by their families in the usual Indian way. The couple are the parents of four children, all girls:
