Education[edit]

Hays holds a B.A (Bachelor of Arts) degree from Dartmouth College.[3] She furthered her education by obtaining a Master's degree in Genetics from the University of California, Davis and a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego.[4]

Career[edit]

Following her formal education, Hays conducted research during a postdoctoral fellowship at Dartmouth Medical School.[5] Subsequently, she transitioned to teaching roles, where she taught science writing at Santa Clara University[6] and San Francisco State University.[7]

She has authored five books (for one she served as editor on cancer immunotherapies) and written 16 articles for academic journals. Additionally, she has delivered presentations at 30 conferences, both nationally and internationally.[8]

Research[edit]

Hays' research interests are primarily focused on biomedicine.[9] She also studies precision oncology,[1] personalized medicine[10][8], cancer immunotherapies biomedicine.[10][11][12]

In addition to her biomedicine research, Hays has an active interest in science and technology policy. She concentrates on policy areas related to biomedical and nanotechnology.[13]

She wrote and published the Second Edition of Advanced Healthcare Through Personalized Medicine in 2022, which The ASCO Post described as the “depth of technical information and wellspring of novel advances carefully woven into a personalized medicine[8] matrix are admirable” and “a top-notch operation from cover to cover”.[14]

Doody’s Medical Review referred to the Second Edition as “an extraordinary compendium of the state of the art in personalized medicine, bringing together some of the important research that is building the foundation for future standards of medical care,” [15] The reviews discusses Dr. Hay’s comprehensive book on personalized medicine, highlighting her credentials as a science writer and her affiliation with prestigious medical organizations.[14][15]
