Redbull (also known as red cow)[a] is a pejorative label from Vietnamese social media used to describe Vietnamese extreme patriots. This term is often used on social networks, typically on TikTok and Facebook, where either anti-communist or pro South Vietnamese communities introduce their opinions against the ongoing political regime in Vietnam and verbally attack Vietnamese users who have sympathical view on their country.
This term represents a consistent group of Vietnamese people with extreme patriotic ideology, chauvinism, and ideology similar to fascism.[1] These people are mostly Vietnamese nationalists and several of them have communist ideals, many people express the opinion that redbull people also have qualities such as racism, national conservatism, xenophobia and right-wing. What all have in common is a certain extreme.[2][3]
Redbull in Vietnam is considered a right-wing conservative movement which sought to defend the traditional values of Vietnamese nationalism.[4]
This term is taken from the main name – Red Bull, an energy drink. According to some people, this word is applied because "delusional people are like buffaloes, or more precisely in Vietnam is called "premature" because the image of Red Bull contains two buffaloes.[1][b]
Other political extremist groups aside from the redbull include the "yellowbull", "yellow bull", "yellow cow", which describe the extreme opposition group of redbull, who held a revisionist view of the defunct Republic of Vietnam or South Vietnam. The term was inspired by the South Vietnam flag and its yellow background.
