Relay is a 2024 American thriller film written by Justin Piasecki and directed and produced by David Mackenzie. It is set to star Lily James, Riz Ahmed and Sam Worthington.
It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024.
Synopsis
[edit]Tom (Ahmed) is a secretive "fixer" who brokers payoffs on behalf of corrupt corporations. Sarah (James) is a potential client who may need his protection.[1]

Production
[edit]The project was written by Justin Piasecki, originally titled as The Broker, and featured on the 2019 Black List. It is directed by David Mackenzie. The film is produced by Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk, Sigma's Gillian Berrie and Black Bear's Teddy Schwarzman, as well as Mackenzie himself.[3]
Casting
[edit]In February 2023, Riz Ahmed and Lily James were cast in the film.[4] In April 2023, Sam Worthington was confirmed as a member of the cast, and was pictured on set in New York.[5][6]
Filming
[edit]Principal photography began in New York in April 2023.[7] Filming locations were also set to include New Jersey.[8][9]
Reception
[edit]On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 92% of 12 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.8/10.[10]
Release
[edit]Relay had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2024. In November 2024, Bleecker Street acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film, planning to release it sometime in 2025.[11]
