Rigan County (Persian: شهرستان ریگان) is in Kerman province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Mohammadabad.[3]
After the 2006 National Census, Gavkan, Gonbaki, and Rigan Rural Districts, and the city of Mohammadabad, were separated from Bam County in the establishment of Rigan County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Mohammadabad as its capital and only city at the time.[3]
In 2019, the villages of Abbasabad-e Sardar and Rahmatabad were elevated to city status.[4]
In 2023, Gonbaki District was separated from the county in the establishment of Gonbaki County. At the same time, Posht-e Rig Rural District was established in the Central District, and Gavkan Rural District was separated from it in the formation of Rahmatabad District, which was divided into two rural districts, including the new Sadabad Rural District.[5]
At the time of the 2011 census, the county's population was 66,335 people in 17,598 households.[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 88,410 in 23,983 households.[2]
