Rokeya Prachy is a Bangladeshi theater, television and film actress and director.^[1]

Career

Prachy got her acting breakthrough in Morshedul Islam's film Dukhai in 1997.^[2] Her first directorial work was a docufiction for Channel I in 2009.^[3] She later directed "Lutfunnesa" and "Bayanno'r Michhile". In 2015, she made her first television series direction in "Shelai Poribar".^[4]

Personal life

Prachy was married to Sergeant Ahad Parvez.^[5] He was killed by muggers in Shapla Square, Motijheel in Dhaka on 28 October 1999.^[5] She then married journalist and columnist Asif Nazrul in May 2004.^[6] They have a daughter together. They divorced in 2013.^[7]

Criticism

Rokeya Prachy took a stand for the government during the repression of the dictatorship Awami League government on the students in the quota reform movement that took place in 2024.^[8] During the movement, a group of pro-autocracy Awami artists, including Rokeya Prachy, were active against the movement in a WhatsApp group called 'Alo Ashbei'^[9] led by actor Ferdous. After the non-cooperation movement, on September 3, 2024, some screenshots related to that WhatsApp group were spread on social media.^[10]^[11]
