In the American Civil War, a Skirmish at Abingdon, Virginia, between Union Army and Confederate States Army forces occurred on December 15, 1864, during Stoneman's 1864 Raid.[1] Skirmishing took place near Abingdon as Union forces under the command of Brevet Major General Stephen G. Burbridge arrived at a nearby crossroads before cavalry under the command of Confederate Brigadier General John C. Vaughn, which prevented Vaughn from protecting Abingdon's rail station.[2] The skirmish is not listed in Dyer's Compendium of the War of the Rebellion.[3]
