The Myth is a Maltese rock band[1] formed in 1990. The members include Dion Farrell (guitar and vocals), Mark Galea (drums), Patrick Mifsud (bass), Stephen Zammit (keyboard), and Claudio Sciberras (guitar).[2]
The band was formed in September 1990 by vocalist Dion Farrell and guitarist Mark Galea. The group's first live performance was in November 1990.[3]
During their formative years, The Myth combined original compositions and cover songs, characterized by extended guitar solos and rhythmic, bass-driven arrangements.[4] Two early singles, "Can't Stop The Fire" and "Midnight," were played on Maltese radio and television but were not commercially released.
The band transitioned to a more acoustic, folk-inspired sound in this period. They began to use instruments like pan pipes and tambourines, rather than electric guitars and drums.
The Myth adopted a pop-rock style during their "Britpop era." Although composed in 1996, "Sworn Independent " was recorded and released as a single in 2007. Subsequent tracks, including "Star" and "Animal," emphasized radio-friendly style.[5]
In 2009, Farrell was named a finalist in the international "Song of the Year" competition.[6]
On August 8th, 2011, The Myth released their debut album, Dreams, which compiled singles from this era. Later that year, the band received a nomination for Best Website Award at the Malta Music Awards.[7]
The band embraced a pop-rock style, releasing songs like "Sadness in Your Eyes." A dance remix of the track by DJ Toby was featured in the film Silhouette (2013), alongside the original version.
The band supported the United Kingdom's official Eagles Tribute band in 1996, Status Quo in 1998, Smokie in 1999, and Queen Tribute Band Rhapsody UK in August 2009.
