The Reeths-Puffer Marching Band

From Wikipedia - Reading time: 8 min

The Reeths-Puffer High School Marching Band is a band of the Reeths-Puffer School District in the US state of Michigan with a history in competition dating back to 1991. In the last 20 years, the band has won 10 Bands of America (BOA) Regional Class AA Championships, a BOA Regional Grand Championship in 2008, a BOA Grand National Championship in Class AA in 1999, 12 Flight 2 State Championships, and four Flight 3 State Championships. The band has won a total of 17 state championships, including its most recent title in 2022.

This year, the R-P marching band developed a show entitled "Spark", based on the concept of something happening that leads to something else, connecting humans to each other and leading to a chain of events.

Competing[edit]

The band competes within the Michigan Competing Band Association in Flight 3 as well as in Bands Of America Regionals and Grand National Championships. Currently, the band has won one Grand National Championship in 1999 with their show entitled "Ancient Treasures".[1] "The band uses halftime performances as dress rehearsals to prepare for its main objective: competing for championships, just like the athletic teams. Every time the band performs on the field, changes, and adjustments have been made from previous performances.[2] The goal is for the group to have the music and choreography fully developed and at its best by the time the state finals roll around. The band's show is altered or improved over the course of the fall based on feedback from judges."

Events and parades[edit]

Every year, The Reeths-Puffer Marching Band Hosts a "March-A-Thon" to help fundraise for the band, also at the end of the season they tour the school district.[3]

Also, they host another fundraising event called "Band-O-Rama" which is a concert that every band in the Reeths-Puffer school district participates.[4][5]

Music[edit]

Every year, The Reeths-Puffer Rocket Marching Band commissions out music from a music arrangement company, currently they use "The Music Of Alex Thode".[6] They also hire out stand-alone writers for the battery and the front ensemble.[citation needed]

Usually the shows they commission are in the "Grade 4" difficulty, which means it is of an advanced level.[7]

Color guard[edit]

The Reeths-Puffer Marching band colorgaurd competes on the national and international level, taking 9th place in the world at the Winter Guard International world championships,[8] [9][10] and first place in the country for their class “Scholastic A” for the 2023 season[11][12]

The Rocket Marching Band has been under the help and direction of multiple staff members to aid in the band's performance.
