Tides of Annihilation is an action-adventure game.[1][5][6] It is played in single-player mode.[2][5][7]
The player controls Gwendolyn, who wields a mysterious power to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table.[1] She can also use her fists, swords, and bows.[8]
The game has a few role-playing elements, such as levels and skill trees.[8] The character customization includes both battle-related elements such as knight configuration, weapon adjustments, equipment and accessory settings, and more, as well as outwardly visible elements such as clothing, hair color, and makeup.[9]
There are difficulty options.[8]
Tides of Annihilation is a fantasy game that blends elements of medieval fantasy with a contemporary setting.[1] It takes place in the modern city of London and the mythical realm of Avalon.[1][5] London has been devastated and distorted by a catastrophic Outworld invasion.[10]
The game is loosely inspired by Arthurian legend.[1][7]
Tides of Annihilation features Gwendolyn (Jennifer English) as the protagonist and Mordred (Aliona Baranova) as an antagonist.[6][11]
The announcement trailer in February 2025 briefly showed a figure resembling Guan Yu as a large statue among Chinese artifacts in a museum exhibition hall and as a horseman riding through an unknown place, as noted by Ultra Console Game.[12]
Gwendolyn is the lone survivor of a siege on London by an Outworld invasion.[1] She discovers a mysterious power that allows her to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table.[1] She embarks on a journey to defeat the demi-gods of Avalon in order to save her sister and exact vengeance.[1]
Tides of Annihilation is a game developed and published by the Chinese studio Eclipse Glow Games.[5][13] It is the first title made by the studio.[8] It is built on Unreal Engine 5.[14] It received investment from Tencent.[8]
Eclipse Glow Games co-CEO & COO Ary Chen, during an interview in March 2025, stated that Tides of Annihilation had been in development for three years.[15]
Chen, during an interview in March 2025, remarked that "Because the legend of King Arthur is a Western story, as a Chinese studio, we need to think about how to reinterpret the culture and how to tell a good story with it. That is something we are constantly working on. We want to truly respect the British culture and the legends of King Arthur, so in order to tell a good story, we’ve been referencing a lot of books and materials and consulting with experts in these fields. Last year, the team actually went to London to do a small-scale playtest and they also did sightseeing to actually see these historic locations."[15]
Chen described that, from an art and design perspective, the game has some ink wash style, which is an East Asian style, in the adventure and portrays a sense of withering in the overall atmosphere.[7]
Tides of Annihilation is scheduled to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.[1][2][16] The release date has not been announced yet.[1][2][16] Eclipse Glow Games shared that they have a tentative release window of 2026 for the game.[8]
Eclipse Glow Games released a trailer announcing Tides of Annihilation during the State of Play, hosted by Sony, on 12 February 2025.[17]
Eclipse Glow Games has plans to expand this property to other mythologies across the world depending on the reception of the game.[14] Future projects would retain the concept of Outworld invasions but feature different protagonists.[8]
