XIII Sorrows (stylized in all caps) is the debut solo extended play (EP) by American rapper Odetari following his earlier extended play, 3x3. The album released on September 13, 2023, through Artist Partner Group. The EP features vocals from artists, 6arelyhuman, Cade Clair, and Jeleel. The album was supported by four singles, "GMFU", "Look Don't Touch", "Good Loyal Thots", and "Narcissistic Personality Disorder".

Background

XIII Sorrows is an EDM EP that incorporates elements of hip-hop;^[2]^[3] it was produced by Odetari, 6arelyhuman and Giomadx, while also being solely written by Odetari.^[4] The album title is named after the Kingdom Hearts group Organization XIII.

Singles

The first single was "Good Loyal Thots" which he released on March 15, 2023. On April 1, 2023, Odetari released the second single, the self-produced "Narcissistic Personality Disorder", the track quickly gained traction. The third single, "Look Don't Touch", released on May 17, 2023. The fourth and final single, "GMFU" was released on July 26, 2023. The singles all charted on the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, published by Billboard, and have in addition been certified gold by the RIAA.

Jacob Saltzberg from Earmilk called XIII Sorrows a "thrilling, captivating project" that is perfect for pushing the boundaries in the weight room, racing around a track, or battling demons.^[3] Liliana Parsons suggested that "many people criticize it because of its popularity on TikTok" suggesting animosity toward TikTok due to its content.^[6]

Accolades

The album was nominated for Top Dance/Electronic Album at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, but lost to Charli XCX's Brat.^[7]
