Next Generation gave the game one star out of five, criticizing gameplay and the special moves, who called them simple to execute, but in essence boring through the game.[7] In contrast, Nick Rox of GameFan was highly positive to the game, praising the Art Gallery, the graphics and music, and concluding that Yū Yū Hakusho is an "excellent, well-rounded fighting game".[6] Spanish magazine GamesTech commended its animated cutscenes and visuals.[10]
