Development history[edit]

On 1 December 2016, an agreement was signed with the Myanmar government for joint planning and construction of the "Myanmar Yatai New City for Intelligent Industries ", or "Yatai City", with investment from Yatai International Holdings Group.

In 2018, Yatai International Group invested US$3.5 billion in infrastructure construction on wasteland in the Shwe Kokko Valley, a key "test-bed" project for Myanmar's innovation and liberalization. On 30 July of the same year, Yatai International Holdings Group officially obtained the MIC Investment Certification for Myanmar. On 1 November, a short documentary (14 minutes and 26 seconds long) on the construction of Yatai City was released on the Nasdaq screen at Times Square in New York City.

In 2019, the construction of the infrastructure of Yatai City accelerated, with the completion of the construction of water, electricity, roads and networks in the initial phase and the basic formation of the city's prototype. Xi'an Construction Engineering, China Housing Group, China Railway Bureau 20, and China Metallurgical Group, four Chinese national enterprises and 17 Chinese national private enterprises have entered into Yatai City to invest and construct the city. On 25 June of the same year, Yatai International Holdings Group signed a contract with Thai Intelligent Airlines to complete the construction of the Yatai airport by 2030.

In 2020, during the outbreak of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19), Yatai City took measures to prevent the epidemic and provided assistance to the surrounding Burmese residents to prevent the epidemic, which effectively controlled the epidemic in Yatai City and the surrounding area.[14][15][16][17] In November of the same year, 19 corporate investment projects were completed.

On 14 September 2021, the government of Myanmar issued an official document to upgrade the Shwe Kokko Valley to the administrative level of a municipal city.

In 2022, the urban pattern of Yatai City was formed: land transport network, modernized communication facilities, green living environment, diversified entertainment and stable social security. Infrastructure, engineering, property development, hotels and restaurants, wholesale and retail, logistics and transport, and agricultural projects have taken shape.
