Barrio of Puerto Rico
Barrio in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico
Yeguada is a barrio in the municipality of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,932.[3][4][5]
Native people inhabited Yeguada, and the barrio later came to be known for the breeding of horses used for transportation.[6]
Yeguada was in Spain's gazetteers[7] until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Yeguada barrio was 428.[8]
Part of the Laguna Tortuguero, a natural reservoir, is located in Yeguada.[15]
