    Aaron Onion (born 20 June 1998) is a former American soccer player who played for Bugeaters FC and Bradford (Park Avenue) A.F.C. in England before retiring due to injury.

    Career[edit]

    Onion was born in Chicago where he began playing for the Chicago Fire FC academy. After attending an event in North Carolina he was scouted by the academy of AFC Bournemouth and moved to England at the age of 16.[1] During his time there, he was coached by former Aston Villa, New York Cosmos, and England national team player, Stephen Hunt (footballer, born 1956).[2] After arriving back in the U.S, he signed for NCAA Division 1 school, N.J.I.T, until he briefly retired due to concussion problems. A year later he returned from retirement and transferred to Nebraska Wesleyan University[3] and subsequently began playing for Bugeaters FC, a semiprofessional team based in Lincoln, Nebraska.[4][5] In the summer of 2018, he went on various trials with professional teams in Germany, before arriving back in England to go on trial with Bradford (Park Avenue) A.F.C. during pre-season[4][6] and appeared against EFL League 2 side Mansfield Town F.C..[7] After an unsuccessful trial period he returned to Nebraska Wesleyan University, where in 2018 he retired from football, at the age of 20, after suffering a 7th concussion.[6]

    Post playing career/Coaching[edit]

    After retiring Onion moved into coaching at his alma mater, Nebraska Wesleyan University where he was an assistant coach. He has since worked in the professional game for USL Championship side, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC where he was a video analyst. His latest position includes being named the assistant coach for Benedictine University in the fall of 2021.[8]
