Amish Shah is the President of ALTR Created Diamonds and pioneer of the lab grown diamond marketplace[1]

Background[edit]

ALTR Created Diamonds is a division of the R.A. Riam Group, a wholesale jeweler based in New York City.[2] The principles of Riam Group were heirs to a heritage of 80 years in the mined diamond business, when they released their first lab-grown diamond.[3] Riam introduced ALTR Created Diamonds at JCK Las Vegas trade show in 2016.[4]

Early Life[edit]

Shah was born and raised in India. When the Indian Institute of Computer Science first introduced computers to grade-schoolers in the Gujurat town of Surat in the 1980s, 11-year-old Amish Shah kept standing up to ask questions. At the age of 12, he began teaching computer science at the institute part time. When he turned 13, he had drafted his first book on computer programming. Shah did not pursue a college degree in the subject, though, because his father and grandfather persuaded him to study business.[5]

After receiving his accounting and economics degree from Mumbai, India, Amish joined his family business in 1992. He left the firm in 2001 to join Third-generation American company R & R Grosbard Inc. in New York.[6] While there, Amish worked to transform the traditional diamond distribution and domestic jewelry manufacturing company into an international presence through customized products and specialized processes. While growing the company's footprint in the United States, he led its international expansion into Australia, South Africa, Mauritius, India, Israel and the European Union. [7]

Early Career[edit]

In 2006, Amish presented an offering of lab grown diamonds at the world’s largest trade event for jewelry, JCK Las Vegas [8]. Shah was one of the first industry leaders to see that the diamond industry and market was ready for disruption and change despite it being an industry rooted in the tradition of mined diamonds [9].   Ten years after he joined R & R Grosbard Inc., Shah took over the company's operations and led a merger with his family business, conceiving R A Riam Group Inc. in New York [10]. The new company has affiliations in several countries for distribution and sourcing, allowing it to grow globally.

Creation of ALTR Created Diamonds[edit]

In 2012, Amish took the lab grown diamond conversation forward working to improve the industry's technological advancement through the power of applied science. This led to the founding of ALTR in 2016 [11].   In 2016, ALTR Created Diamonds, the only vertically integrated diamond enterprise that provides a true end-to-end product, had pride of place at JCK Las Vegas and is now a global company [12].

Pioneer in the Industry[edit]

In 2018, Amish Shah unveiled the world’s first ground-breaking diamond growing film at JCK Las Vegas. The film presents how two technologies (CVD and HPHT) are combined to grow the finest Lab Grown Diamonds for ALTR. [15]
