Archer Materials (ASX)[1] is an Australian material technology company with headquarters in Wayville, SA.[2][3] It develops advanced materials in quantum computing, biotechnology, and lithium-ion batteries; and mineral exploration in Australia.[4][5][6]
Archer Materials was founded in 2007 as Archer Exploration Limited with its offices in Sydney and Adelaide. In August 2007, the company was listed on the ASX. Archer works on disease-detecting graphene ink biosensors,[7] and owns various exploration tenements, including a graphite deposit at Campoona, South Australia.[8] In October 2017, Archer Materials acquired Carbon Allotropes, a graphene and graphite online marketplace. [9] In April 2019, the business announced the commencement of the 12CQ Project, with the aim to build a world-first quantum computing chip that could operate at room-temperature,[10] using carbon nanospheres as the qubit material.[11][12] In May 2020, Archer became the first Australian company to enter the IBM Q Network and signed quantum computing agreement with IBM.[4][13][14] Archer subsequently began a collaboration on testing quantum neural networks with artificial intelligence firm Max Kelsen in January 2021.[15]
