Benjamin Johnson, known by his stage name Ben Johnson, is an American songwriter and producer based in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the founder of Music Row, a music studio. Johnson is also a member of the band Track45, created in collaboration with his sisters KK and Jenna.[1]
Throughout his career, Johnson has received five CMA Triple Play Awards, a BMI Country Award, and a Song of the Year Grammy nomination. Eight of his songs have also achieved a number-one position on the charts. Notable works include “Take My Name,” “One Of Them Girls,” “New Truck,” “Best Thing Since Backroads,” “All My Favorite Songs,” “Gone,” and “Beers On Me.”[2]
Johnson was born in Meridian, Mississippi. He grew up in a musically inclined family: his grandmother was a piano teacher, his grandpa was a church choir director, and his uncle performed in a barbershop quartet. From a young age, Johnson’s mother started teaching singing to him and his sisters, leading all three of them to learn instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and cello.
In 2012, Johnson moved to Nashville to pursue higher studies at Belmont University.
Johnson and his sisters began writing, producing, and performing music at various events, such as weddings, funerals, parties, nursing homes, and churches. This led to the formation of Track45, a country band managed by Missi Gallimore and Gary Borman. In 2020, Track45 released its debut EP, “Big Dreams,” and their single, “Met Me Now," was featured on radio in 2021.[3]
During his university years, Johnson started co-writing and met Ashley Gorley, who signed him to Tape Room Music in 2018. He has also signed a record deal with BBR, owned by Stoney Creek, and the Artist Publishing Group (Los Angeles). Over the years, Johnson has written for artists such as Jake Owen, Thomas Rhett, Bebe Rexha, Charlie Puth, and Lauren Alaina, among others.[4]
In 2018, Johnson received his first major cut with the single “Patient” for the album “Voicenotes” by pop artist Charlie Puth.[5]
Johnson's song "One of Them Girls," which Lee Brice performed, won the Country Song of the Year award in 2021 from all three PROs, ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC.[6]. Additionally, Benjamin is a member of country group Track45[1]
Several of his songs have been number one on the charts, including “One of Them Girls," "Gone," and “All My Favorite Songs.” Other hit songs include “Beers On Me,” “Give Heaven Some Hell,” “Best Thing Since Backroads,” “Truck Bed,” “New Truck,” and “Take My Name.”
