Birai is a small village of 5806 hectares in Shergarh Tehsil in Jodhpur district, also known as the Blue City in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Birai depends on Jodhpur, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, One tank, One tubewell, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Birai is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Handpump. Birai's pin code is 342603[4], and village code is 01950500. The area of Birai is segregated as 1331 hectares irrigated area, 2665 hectares unirrigated, the 401 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 1409 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Birai has One post office (Birai B.O) and One public telephone. The village is connected with a single bus service. Birai has Two banks, One credit society and One agricultural credit society for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Birai is a census village in the district of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 7400 and has total administration over 1234 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Birai has 1251 children, 672 boys and 579 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 1966 (26.57%) males constitute 1035 (13.99%) of the population and females 931 (12.58%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 25 (0.34%) males constitute 15 (0.20%) of the population and females 10 (0.14%).

The workforce is 1888 male, 1913 female with 2255 (59.33%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 1526 males and 729 females. 898 males and 495 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 136 male and 182 female agricultural labor. 1546 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of Jodhpur to sell agricultural produce and make their living.
