Birondem is a small village of 278 hectares in Satari Tehsil in North Goa district, known and rated to have the best quality of life in India (based on the commission’s “12 Indicators”)[2] in the state of Goa, India.[3] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Birondem depends on VALPOI, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[4] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, Two tanks, Two tubewells, and Two handpumps. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - One river, Two canals and Two springs. Birondem is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tap. Birondem's pin code is 403506[5], and village code is 00017400. The area of Birondem is segregated as 4.18 hectares irrigated area, 232.05 hectares unirrigated, the 13.26 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 28.07 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Birondem has One post office (Birondam B.O). The village is connected with a single bus service. Birondem has Two banks and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with One recreational center.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Birondem is a census village in the district of North Goa, Goa. The village has a total population of 476 and has total administration over 126 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Birondem has 41 children, 20 boys and 21 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 12 (2.52%) males constitute 8 (1.68%) of the population and females 4 (0.84%).

According to a census 2011 report, 228 people of the total population are employed. The workforce is 128 male, 100 female with 107 (46.93%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 70 males and 37 females. 6 males and 6 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 2 male and 4 female agricultural labor. 121 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of VALPOI and North Goa to sell coconut and make their living.
