Bluebell Group (Chinese: 蓝钟集团) is a Hong Kong-based, family-owned and operated French Distribution (marketing) of luxury, premium and lifestyle brands across Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

The company operates complex distribution networks including flagship stores, single-brand or multi-brand stores for more than 150 brands in Asia, as well as e-commerce and Wholesaling|wholesale.[1] Notable brands distributed by the company in Asia include Moschino, Jimmy Choo (company), Manolo Blahnik, Venchi, Brunello Cucinelli (company) and Davidoff.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

As of 2020, it was the largest Duty-free shop operator in South Korea, which was itself the largest duty-free market in the world.[7] Bluebell Group’s President and Chief Executive Officer is Ashley Micklewright.

History[edit]

Bluebell was founded by French businessman Peter Goemans, who established a perfume store in Cannes in 1948, selling duty-free to soldiers stationed near Nice since the second world war. In 1954, Peter decided to set up a store in Japan, where he formally established the Bluebell Group.[8]

In 1967, Peter’s son Michel took the reins of the company with his wife Catherine, who diversified the group’s focus from perfumes to fashion and accessories. One of the earliest French luxury houses to work with the Group was Louis Vuitton from 1970. Other notable brands to follow since include Lanvin (company), Blumarine and Jimmy Choo.[9][10][11]

In 2005, Bluebell launched the fragrance retail concept L’Atelier des Parfums in Japan, a multi-brand environment within department stores dedicated to perfume.[12]

In 2009, the company founded the Luxury Business Institute, offering educational courses on brand management and storekeeping for luxury brand staff. The Luxury Business Institute has offices in South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Paris, and has worked with brands including Gucci, Hermès and Burberry.[13]

In 2017, it launched b.space, a multi-brand concept store in Kuala Lumpur curating up-and-coming high-end streetwear brands for young generations of Malaysian consumers.[14]

In September 2020, the group acquired a minority stake in distributor Translatio to strengthen its networks across Mainland China and Asia.[15]
