The Broward Institution campus is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and it is a public college. The Florida College System includes it as one of its institutions. In 1959, as part of an initiative to expand the educational offerings of Florida's two-year institutions, it was created. It changed to its present name in 2008 to reflect the fact that it is one of the institutions that is classified as a "state college," which indicates that it is able to confer bachelor's degrees after students complete four years of study.
Junior College of Broward County was the original name of the college when it opened its doors in 1959. (JCBC). It was President Joe B. Rushing who oversaw operations when the school first opened its doors the following year, with a total of 28 teaching staff members and 701 pupils enrolled. Students attended classes in what were formerly the buildings of the Naval Air Station Junior High, which were located on the western edge of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. This practise continued until 1963, when the first permanent buildings of the college were finally finished being constructed.
