Chandhan is a small village of 10235 hectares in Jaisalmer Tehsil in Jaisalmer district, nicknamed ""The Golden city"" in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Chandhan depends on JAISALMER, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, Two Wells supply, One tank, One tubewell, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Chandhan is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Handpump. Chandhan's pin code is 345031[4], and village code is 02037600. The area of Chandhan is segregated as 158.5 hectares irrigated area, 580.82 hectares unirrigated, the 3941.2 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 5459.85 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Chandhan has One post office (Chandan B.O) and Eighty Three public telephones. The village is connected with a single bus service. Chandhan has One bank, One credit society and One agricultural credit society for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Chandhan is a census village in the district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 3306 and has total administration over 545 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Chandhan has 629 children, 333 boys and 296 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 847 (25.62%) males constitute 451 (13.64%) of the population and females 396 (11.98%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 61 (1.85%) males constitute 36 (1.09%) of the population and females 25 (0.76%).

The workforce is 856 male, 524 female with 781 (56.59%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 666 males and 115 females. 100 males and 5 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 59 male and 19 female agricultural labor. 599 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of Jaisalmer to sell agricultural produce and make their living.
