Cherai is a small village of 6395 hectares in Osian Tehsil in Jodhpur district, also known as the Blue City in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Cherai depends on Jodhpur, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, One tank, One tubewell, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Cherai is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Handpump. Cherai's pin code is 342306[4], and village code is 01935900. The area of Cherai is segregated as 436.61 hectares irrigated area, 5642.39 hectares unirrigated, the 236 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 80 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Cherai has One post office (Cherai B.O) and One public telephone. The village is connected with a single bus service. Cherai has One bank, One credit society and One agricultural credit society for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Cherai is a census village in the district of Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 3175 and has total administration over 546 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Cherai has 647 children, 353 boys and 294 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 1179 (37.13%) males constitute 620 (19.53%) of the population and females 559 (17.61%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 2 (0.06%) males constitute 2 (0.06%) of the population and females 0 (0.0%).

According to a census 2011 report, 1483 people of the total population are employed. The workforce is 847 male, 636 female with 1111 (74.92%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 692 males and 419 females. 477 males and 390 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 74 male and 13 female agricultural labor. 372 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of Jodhpur to sell agricultural produce and make their living.
