Chhan is a small village of 802 hectares in Tonk Tehsil in Tonk district in the State of Rajasthan, India.[2] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Chhan depends on Tonk, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[3] The village has government-provided water facilities that include Two taps, One Well supply, One tank, One tubewell, and One handpump. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - One river, One canal and Two springs. Chhan is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Handpump. Chhan's pin code is 304001[4], and village code is 02642700. The area of Chhan is segregated as 599.3 hectares irrigated area, 61.4 hectares unirrigated, the 50.6 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 90.7 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Chhan has One post office (Chhan B.O) and Thirty Six public telephones. The village is connected with a single bus service. Chhan has One bank, One credit society and One agricultural credit society for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics[edit]

Chhan is a census village in the district of Tonk, Rajasthan. The village has a total population of 3224 and has total administration over 542 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Chhan has 326 children, 186 boys and 140 girls.
  • Scheduled caste counts for 845 (26.21%) males constitute 467 (14.49%) of the population and females 378 (11.72%).
  • Scheduled tribe counts for 186 (5.77%) males constitute 123 (3.82%) of the population and females 63 (1.95%).

According to a census 2011 report, 1286 people of the total population are employed. The workforce is 721 male, 565 female with 1191 (92.61%) of all workers being employed full-time, this includes 662 males and 529 females. 264 males and 316 females are considered as the main cultivators with the help of 81 male and 124 female agricultural labor. 95 people are reported to work for a marginal period of time in the year.

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of Tonk to sell agricultural produce and make their living.
