Chief technology officer

Chief technical officer (CTO), also known as chief technology officer or chief technologist, is an executive-level job in a business or other body whose profession is focused on the scientific and technological problems that face the firm or entity in question.

A chief technology officer (CTO) is very similar to a chief information officer (CIO). CTOs will make choices on the organization's overall technological infrastructure that are closely aligned with the organization's objectives, while CIOs will work with the organization's information technology ("IT") staff members to carry out the organization's day-to-day operations. A CTO's knowledge of new and current technologies is critical in order to lead the company's future efforts. The characteristics of the responsibilities held by a chief technology officer (CTO) differ from one business to the next, mostly because of differences in organisational structure.

In the United States, the typical pay for a chief technology officer (CTO) varies between $130,000 and $195,000 per year, depending on the industry in which the business operates. An InfoSec Institute study from 2018 estimates that chief technology officers in the banking industry make about $200,000, while chief technology officers in e-commerce earn roughly $76,000.
