Cognite is a global industrial software-as-a-service (SaaS) company headquartered in Oslo, Norway. In addition, Cognite operates offices in Tokyo, Japan, and Austin and Houston, Texas.[1]

Cognite was founded in 2017 by Dr. John Markus Lervik, who is now Cognite's CEO; Stein Danielsen, Cognite's Chief Solutions Officer; and Geir Engdahl, Cognite's CTO.[2]

Cognite software is used in oil and gas, power and utilities, renewable energy, manufacturing, and other asset-heavy industries. Cognite has developed and runs its Industrial DataOps platform, Cognite Data Fusion™, which, the company says enables data and domain users to collaborate in order to develop, operationalize, and scale industrial AI solutions and applications.[3]

In May 2021, Cognite raised $150 million in a Series B investment by TCV (investment firm)|TCV, a technology-focused growth equity firm, marking one of the largest private funding rounds for a SaaS company in Europe.[4] In October 2020, prior to raising capital from TCV, Cognite also raised an undisclosed multi-million dollar amount from major global venture capital firm, Accel (company)|Accel.

Cognite is today valued at approximately $1.6 billion.[3]

Some of Cognite's customers include BP|bp, Statnett, Aarbakke, Aker Offshore Wind, OMV, Lundin Energy, Sumitomo Group|Sumitomo, Wintershall Dea, Aker BP, and Aker Solutions.
