Colorado is a state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States, and it is the state with the highest population in the country. It is comprised mostly of portions of the Southern Rocky Mountains, but it also includes a part of the Colorado Plateau, and a portion of the western border of the Great Plains. Colorado is the ninth most extensive and twenty-first most populated state in the United States. During the 2020 United States Census, the population of Colorado was counted at 5,773,714, representing a 14.80 percent growth over the 2010 United States Census figure.
Colorado is bordered to the north by Wyoming, to the northeast by Nebraska, to the east by Kansas, to the southeast by Oklahoma, to the south by New Mexico, to the west by Utah, and to the southwest by Arizona in the Four Corners. Colorful mountains, woods, high plains, mesas (mountain escarpment) and rivers run across Colorado's scenery, which includes canyons, plateaus, and desert regions.
